Color laser is superior to cheap inkjet printers

A $250 color inkjet sounded great, but it turned out to be a mistake. We should have bought a color laser printer. With the color inkjet we wasted not only $250, but we wasted over $300 on overpriced ink, special costly inkjet paper. The alluring ads for inkjet printers never told us we had to buy a PostScript RIP accessory (which cost over $100).

So we found a generous benefactor who make it possible for our nonprofit institute to purchase a high-quality color laser printer. Actually we spent two years researching which printer was best. HP and Lexmark printers offered only 600 dpi, so that was not good enough. This narrowed the search to QMS, Tally, and Tektronix (now part of Xerox). The Tektronix cost over a thousand dollars more than the QMS or Tally. We got the best price from Tally so we ordered their T8204 model, 11x17 oversize (prints on paper up to 13x19 inches).

Here are initial samples from the new printer. This color laser printer is set up in the FLAAR digital imaging center at the Universidad Francisco Marroquin for use printing images for the Museo Popol Vuh, an archaeology museum on the university campus in Guatemala City, Guatemala, Central America. The page size here is 11x17 inches. The quality is better than we anticipated and made everyone recognize we had made the correct choice.

Some black-and-white laser printers can handle paper up to 13 x 35 inches in size.
